A busy week can leave you feeling as though you’re always catching up on rest. Work fills the evenings, and training takes more effort than usual. Even a quiet weekend may not feel long enough.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a wellness option people consider when they want to make more room for relaxation and recovery. Here at ReGen Wellness in Hampton, our sessions take place in a seated, pressurised pod.
For anyone considering hyperbaric oxygen therapy for fatigue, our service offers a wellness experience, not a treatment for fatigue or a guaranteed energy or recovery outcome.
Poor sleep and ongoing stress can contribute to tiredness. Not meeting your nutritional needs or allowing enough recovery between demanding training sessions can also leave you feeling run down. Difficulty concentrating can come with tiredness too, though that’s a separate topic from this one.
Often, these demands overlap. Working late might mean less sleep before an early workout, followed by another full day. Reviewing that pattern can help you identify where more rest or a change in training load may be needed.
A wellness appointment provides a scheduled break. It can complement everyday habits that support recovery, including sufficient sleep and adequate nutrition.
If tiredness persists despite rest or interferes with daily life, speak with a healthcare professional about possible underlying causes.
Hyperbaric therapy involves spending time in a chamber where the pressure is higher than normal atmospheric pressure.
We use a hard-shell pod operating at 1.35 ATA, approximately 35% above normal atmospheric pressure. Our service uses ambient air and a hydrogen mixture, with a reclining seat and desk inside the pod.
This differs from medical hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which generally involves breathing 100% oxygen under increased pressure in a clinical setting.
Research has explored clinical hyperbaric oxygen therapy for exercise recovery, with mixed findings. A 2021 systematic review found no significant overall recovery benefit when it was used after exercise. A separate review, published online in 2025, reported improvements in measures of exercise-induced muscle injury but no significant overall improvement in muscle soreness.
These reviews concern clinical oxygen treatment protocols that differ from our service. The pressure and breathing mixture matter, as do the people studied and the outcomes measured. Results involving athletes after a particular exercise test do not automatically tell us how someone feeling tired after a busy working week will respond.
Before your appointment, our team reviews your medical form and contacts you if any contraindications are identified. Include relevant health information and raise any concerns about enclosed spaces or pressure changes beforehand. If you’re unsure whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy is suitable for you, seek medical advice before booking.
Wear comfortable clothing you’re happy to sit in for the session. You’ll remove your shoes before entering the pod.
Pressurisation takes about two minutes. As the pressure changes, you may notice your ears popping, similar to the sensation on a flight. Let us know if you experience any discomfort.
Once the pod reaches its operating pressure, you can sit upright or recline. During your session, you can:
At the end of the session, the pod slowly returns to normal pressure before you leave. Afterwards, you can have a drink in our lounge or head straight off to continue your day.
We offer 50- and 80-minute sessions, with a 25-minute option available exclusively to members. Ask us how much time to allow for your visit, including preparation.
A single appointment lets you experience the chamber before deciding whether to return. For your first visit, choose a time when you can arrive without rushing and have room for the full appointment.
Start by looking at the week you already have. If fitting in a session means cutting sleep short or rushing through a meal, another day may work better.
If you train regularly, a lighter training day or rest day may be convenient for a visit. Keep your usual recovery arrangements in place, including any advice from your coach or healthcare professional.
For example, if weekday mornings already involve training before work, a quieter Saturday may give you more breathing room. Someone with weekend commitments might prefer a weekday afternoon.
Decide beforehand whether you want to bring work or use the appointment as a break.
After your first visit, consider whether you were comfortable in the pod and enjoyed the experience. You can then decide whether further appointments fit your plans and budget, without committing to a regular schedule immediately.
If you want to return, we offer multi-session packages. For a closer look at session costs and packages, see our hyperbaric oxygen therapy cost guide. Our memberships include weekly 25-minute hyperbaric credits, with the number of credits varying by tier. They also include access to selected other services.
A package may suit you if you mainly want hyperbaric sessions. If you plan to use several services at ReGen Wellness, compare the membership inclusions with what you realistically expect to use. Check the appointment lengths as well: a weekly 25-minute membership credit is different from a standalone 50- or 80-minute session.
At our Hampton centre in Melbourne’s Bayside, you can begin with an individual appointment. Speak with us about the available session lengths and any questions you have before your first visit.
